Finding yourself

Met someone I havn't seen in about 2 years when I was out yesterday and started a conversation with her about how she has been getting along since we last met. Seems like she is in the 'Who I am, What is my purpose in life' stage. Apparently she signed up for some 3 year course to help her find out more about herself and her purpose.

I can't help but realise that many people my age are in this stage of life (or have gone through it already) where they'll be questioning about their existence. Is life all about going through an education, working, getting married, having children, growing old and eventually dying? Or any of the other routines like getting up in the morning, rushing off for work, returning home late and night before the whole mad cycle starts all over again?

Sad to say, this is precisely the kind of life most people are leading. But of course, it's up to us to make our limited life here on earth more fulfilling and enriching. That's why I say,

1) Develop deep friendships and maintain them
2) Find a job that you like
3) Make time for yourself
4) Explore things around us
5) Be open to new ideas

Of course, it's always easier to pen these thoughts than to actually live by it. I've got a book - 'The Purpose Driven Life' lying on my table for 1/2 year already. Perhaps I should get down to reading it to further improve my quality of life....
