Baby Shower

I got a very pleasant surprise from my friends today who popped by my place (unplanned) for a surprise baby shower! How cool is that? I though baby showers are something more ang moh and something that happens only in the West.

Anyway, it was fun! I (or rather the baby) received so many presents that it feels like he is already born! Now he's got toys, clothes, blankets, shoes etc etc. Talk about spoiling the child! I think the culprits will be the grandparents and these aunties!

Thank you aunties for the gifts! You've all made Gabriel one very lucky and fortunate baby already =)

What a yummy-licious looking cake...

Macam like it's my birthday!

The customary pose... cheese!!

MIA

Where do the freaking cabs go to when you need them the most? To think the drivers have the cheek to complain about not having enough passengers to sustain their livelihood!!

I hope something can be done to deal with these drivers when they selectively pick their customers, charge high fares, or simply disappear at inappropraite times.

The going gets tough

Most of my clothes are shrinking and it just doesn't seem appropriate to be wearing those peek-a-boo tummy clothes to school anymore. Thankfully I think I have just enough for the entire week before I recycle them again the next week . Muahahaa.. Well, it doesn't make sense to buy more clothes now anyway... I'm only about slightly more than a month away from the big day.

Can't really find a right word to describe what I'm feeling right now. On one hand, I'd really like to see how/who the little one would look like (I mean, I can't image how anyone would bear any resemblence to The Husband and I!!). On the other hand, I still can't bear the thought of having to go through the labour pains and process of giving birth. It still scares me a lot!!!

Sigh sigh. I'm only looking forward to my maternity leave. 3 more weeks of school and then I'll be free!!

Inferior Good

I have been advised by my gynae to cut down on carbohydrates. So things like rice, pasta, noodles and the like have to be reduced. Only problem is that its kind of difficult to totally abstain from rice, noodles etc. in the Asian diet. Anyway, I think I'm doing quite fine with the reduction of carbo intake.

EXCEPT.... I need my potato fix!! Those who know me would know that I'm quite a sucker for this inferior good... I like almost all kinds of potatoes and now I'm having some kind of 'withdrawal' symptoms from the lack of potatoes in my diet! That's why I went to MOS Burger just now and had a big packet of fat fries (in addition to the burger) for lunch today. Hahaa.

Wonder why the call it the inferior good in Economics... (BTW, an inferior good is a good that has the property that when a person's income rises the demand for the inferior good falls.) Potatoes are simply too delicious for me to resist!

Selamat Hari Raya

It just fascinates me how Muslim families can all wear coordinated baju during this festive season. It looks kinda cute!

Hmmm... I think I shall try to get coordinated outfits for my little family next Chinese New Year (provided The Husband is spontaneous enough to play along and humour me... )

Free from the wheels!

The husband has finally passed his driving test. Hooray!! This means that I no longer have to take the wheels when we go out together. Other than it being a relief on my tummy, it also means that I no longer have a 'live' telecast of the road conditions as I drive. Phew!

Anyway, we were out on the 1st night he passed his test for a joy ride and ended up at a park cos he wanted to practice his parking without the poles. So there we were going in and out of the lots, turning ever so slowly and repeating the entire process for a good few minutes.

It was only after we got out of the car that we realised that the engine of the 2 cars closest to us were running, with windows all fogged up! The guys in the car must be cursing at us for spoiling their 'romantic' night! Hahaha...

Triple Kicks

I began to feel small butterfly flutters since my 2nd trimester. At first, the kicks seemed so amazing...

Now that I'm larger, the butterfly kicks have grown to full scale kicks... and I really mean kicks! Not just 1, but at least 3 consecutive kicks to form a big whammy! I wonder what's he doing inside....

Semoga Bahagia

It was Childrens' Day yesterday and a day of rest for me! Yay yay! Remember the song we used to sing in school on this day??

Sama-sama maju ke hadapan
Pandai cari pelajaran
Jaga diri dalam kesihatan
Serta sopan-santun dengan kawan-kawan
Dengan hati bersih serta suci
Sama-sama hormat dan berbudi
Jaga tingkah pemuda-pemudi
Adat dan budaya junjung tinggi
Capailah lekas cita-cita pemudi-pemuda
Supaya kita ada harga di mata dunia
Kalau kita lengah serta lupa
Hidup kita sia-sia
Jiwa besar sihat serta segar
Rajin dengan sabar tentu bahagia
Lemah lembut perangai pemudi
Cergas tangkas wataknya pemuda
Suka rela selalu berbakti
Sikap yang pembela dan berjasa
Capailah nama yang mulia pemudi-pemuda
Rajinlah supaya berjaya semoga bahagia
I never knew what I was singing... but I must admit this song does have a nice melody and it catches on you quite fast. When the students sang it last week, I found myself being drifted back to the days when I was a kid... Oh! How time has passed...

Anyway, here's a translation in English...

Together we progress
Clever at seeking knowledge
Take care of your health
And be courteous to your friends
With a clean and pure heart
We respect and do good to each other
Watch your behaviour, oh youths
Respect and honour your customs and traditions
Quickly reach your goals/dreams, oh youths
So that we'll have our worth, in this world
If we are lazy and forgetful
Our lives are worthless
A big heart and a fresh mind
Hardworking and patience defintely brings success/happiness
Soft-spoken is the lady
Energetic and tenacious is the man
Charitable, always contributing
Having a righteous spirit and doing good
Attain a respectable position, oh youths
Be hardworking so that you will succeed, may you achieve happiness

Never knew that this song had such 'cheem' lyrics till now...
